Bogart's multi-media piece speaks to feelings of isolation and stress caused by social media use. A majority of people place too much importance on sharing every facet of their lives, digitally. The unnatural pressure of constantly being “seen” online especially for those with low self-esteem, causes undue emotional disease and depression. A 2017 study from the American Journal of Preventative Medicine found “social media use is linked to greater feelings of social isolation.” A peer reviewed research article published by Plos states, “Facebook use was linked to both less moment-to-moment happiness and less life satisfaction—“ Combining delicate, tight strokes bringing the artist in personal, direct contact with the board and forcing her to stay attentive and mindful to detail with looser, larger, thick and concealing paint layers expresses the yin and yang some people feel as they struggle to maintain their presence, equally in their real world and as their online persona.
