Warm and Cool

11 x 14 inch, oil on canvas painting of a small Spanish style stucco home with a '59 Chevy Impala parked in the driveway. The late afternoon sun casts its light on the American Dream of a home and Auto realized. The painting was started as an open-air study from direct observation, and was completed in the studio from photographs. The painting has a clear gloss coat of Windsor Conserv-art Varnish, and is ready to hang in a black and gold floater frame.

It is folly to attempt to record a world in flux; but the challenge of open-air painting compels me to capture that evasive effect. The process is as valuable as the end result – concentrated work that heightens the present with a sense of urgency. To see the world in the unique way of an artist is in itself endlessly entertaining; and engaging with it in paint, even more so.
