Fresh Water

I designed and painted “Fresh Waters”, using acrylic paint on 24 in. x 48 in. x 1/4in. wood panel.
Completed in 2017, “Fresh Waters” depicts a mechanical sturgeon swimming carelessly alongside an oil pipeline to nip at the bait: a dollar bill fastened to a fishing hook. I was inspired by the issues we face with funding for protecting our Great Lakes and “Line 5”, the oil pipeline that runs at the bottom of the Straits of Mackinac. We hear too often of leaks of other pipelines and the dangers associated with them. Line 5 was built in 1953. What can we do to protect our State’s treasure which is 20% of the planet’s fresh surface water? Or will we settle for the mechanical fish swimming through our waters feeding on greed.
