Great Episode. Made me think about so many things listening to Andrea and Ashley. Creative People being able to say NO! Novel idea. Being a creative person myself, this has always been an issue. As you stated Andrea, creative people have such a giving of themselves philosophy it is hard to think of yourself as a business person, but you truly…[Read more]

    • I met with friends/colleagues yesterday to catch up and set our 2019 goals (intentions) and one of us stated that live/work balance was a HUGE goal and saying “no” to opportunities that didn’t serve her life was the first step. Saying “no” is imperative if you want to streamline and move forward.

Yeah, I can’t figure out these “categories” of age…[Read more]

    • Learning to draw boundaries and say “NO” took me many years and many lessons. Veronica, as a fellow female baby-boomer, I think we were culturally ingrained to lack boundaries and be available to everyone or everything that needs us. As a creative, it is the only thing that gives us the space to continue. Ashley had a really good point about how…[Read more]

Sarah, Your business is a phenomenal idea. As soon as I can I will order boxes for my daughters/daughters in laws. Wish it was around when I was raising my kids.

Again, Great insight. Being part of the art community is a tremendous stepping stone. Andrea your idea to go outside of what is familiar and seek other collaborative opportunities is a grand idea.

    • Thank you, Veronica! I appreciate your thoughtful comment and I hope you find that our EC Members and the other interesting people I interview bring you value. Let me know who you want me to interview or what topics you’d like me to talk about. *and send your creative friends here on Mondays at 9am! xoxo

You are so right Andrea. Several things I have had to re envision in art as well as life. i have always been fearful of rejection, that is one of the reasons why it has been difficult for me to dive into the art community. I realize I should take ego out of the scenario, and although I have unsuccessfully made a couple of exhibitions, I do know…[Read more]

    • I don’t know anyone who is immune from rejection – it’s how they react to it that’s telling. Time heals and sometimes you don’t know what you’re supposed to “learn”, until you learn it. but the first step is placing the emotion of rejection in its proper place, and reviewing the scenario to determine what went wrong and learn from it. In terms of…[Read more]

  • I need professional photography for my art work. Any suggestions or referrals?

Yes Karen. If I use the MDF Boards they are a little heavy, the luan pieces with the back support are not, that is why I use the luan usually. I started making large pieces because my sister is an Interior Designer and needed large pieces for her clients spaces. The smallest piece I have is a 22×26.

I think it may be Luan. I use it quite a lot myself as well as MDF Board which is much heavier.

I do mainly work on board, I find canvas is too expensive for the size pieces I create. Yes I would also like to hear from others .

    • @veronicamerriwether aren’t these pieces very heavy? Is this how large the pieces are from your Gallery pics are?

Good Morning Andrea. I usually have the same issue, so my husband now makes framing to attach to the back. He uses a heavy glue as not to affect the front of the art piece. please see pic of the back, he puts a piece in the middle as well since my pieces are generally either 48×48 or 48×60, helps keep art piece from warping in the middle. 20181217_100002

    • Oh, thank you for this great option, Veronica (especially for the visual). Do you mainly work on board? **I’m hoping other EC Members will chime in with what they’ve done, too so we can learn more.

  • Does anyone sell in art fairs, and/or festivals? If so what is your experience and the process? Which are the best ones in Michigan?

Fabulous. Colors are great, and a real 3D effect

  • @karenzuk

Karen, do you show at Art Festivals at all, and if so what is the usual process.
    Thanks

I lost my studio space, so I am able to create as much as I would like. My pieces are large scale so I need a lot of room. Trying to look into studio space or talk my husband into creating me some space in our home. Art keeps me grounded, but I have not created anything in the last year. Can’t wait to get started, have so many ideas.
