Hello fellow Artists. This is the first time I am actually following through on this wonderful site. At a Wellness event, I went to recently, the keynote speaker told us to watch how we describe ourselves and people have a habit of always airing that they are so busy, too busy, always busy. I am one of those, but she reminded us that is not a complimentative description of ourselves. I was advised to get myself out of the always busy outlook. I did cancel something out of the week so I can just reflect on myself and try to be in a just be state of mind. When I realized I had some time, I took up the ukulele. I am enjoying practicing and now have a small collection of them.
I continue to work on my Paint it Forward: Interactive Artist Adventure Project where I decided to paint around the world through the alphabet. It is “a lot of work” but I am currently working on P for Portugal, and find myself not even wanting to make a palette. I think I am starting to wind down from the hype. Painting and connecting with Kenya took so much energy out of me and this is the first time that when the painting was complete and sent to its new owner, I am still connected, still communicating, still asking questions and sending notes of appreciation. I did not explain thoroughly, when I paint these pictures around the world, most time finding my inspiration on GoogleMaps, but sometimes a place such as Kenya is not on GoogleMaps, I need to reach out to other websites or FB pages of others to get an approval to use their image for the project. At that point, I try to live the culture as much as possible. Make the foods, drink the wine, eat sweets, listen to stories, and play the music. When the painting is complete usually about a month or two, I send the painting over to the representative I have chosen, and in turn, they are instructed to hold the painting in front of the scene as a confirmation that the painting is at its new home. If someone decides to purchase a print of the image, I donate the funds to their choice of charity. (whew) These 4 pictures of some of the places that have cooperated with my project, Hong Kong, Olasiti Kenya, Madagascar (avenue of the Baobabs) and Jordan. They are not such a great shot of the paintings, but these people are now my family. This project has become something much more meaningful to me than I anticipated from the start. I have learned so much. My mind and heart are full. hong kong50230692_227506878125451_4422376392734277632_n (1)40373465_2170093243278073_1835745610167222272_n20451713_10212636028648529_7584692913583753821_o

    • What an inspirational project, Maria! I remember painting at your studio and we would reference different countries. Is this where your Paint it Forward sprouted from? I want to learn more about this… 🌎

    • What a great story! Amazing! Looking forward to seeing more posts!

    • Hey Maria, I want to comment on how people describe themselves as busy. I have a good friend at my office and everyday when I ask her how she is, she says “Oh busy…very busy”. Not long ago I said, I KNOW you are busy but HOW are YOU! I did that a few times and now we laugh…. I guess it’s a self reflection……..I say it too sometimes….hmmmm…I need to think more on that…but I am pretty busy 🙂 LOL. Welcome to the site.

    • This is a really inspiring project. “Busy” is productive, “overwhelmed” not so much.
