I’m a self-taught mixed media artist and creative explorer. For years I painted oil-based realistic landscapes. After a time, I found the solvents in oils were causing health issues, plus I was no longer creatively challenged by painting realism, so I switched to acrylics and tried my hand at abstract painting. Oh my, I had come home!
I’m in love with the process of layering, creating a visual history, adding intriguing textures, working with collage – the whole shebang. I’m very inspired by words – book passages, quotes, poetry. Using color, texture, and shape, I experiment with creating an abstract expression of the written word. It’s an amorphous process to reach a successful execution of my vision.
Currently I’m attempting to be more raw and free in my approach, leaving the hand of the artist visible for all to see. It’s a constant argument with my inner critic who keeps insisting that I need to ‘fix’ things.»
