It’s the 2024 holiday season and although many people are winding down the design industry is heating up! People who put off their summer redesigns or builds are back on track and at BDNY, word was that commercial business will stay strong for 2025. In fact, based on data from qualifiedremodeler.com, architects and interior designers report an increase in expected business activity for Q4, up 17 points for architects (60 in Q3 and 77 in Q4) and 1 point for interior designers (60 in Q3 to 61 in Q4).

Whether or not your firm designs for hotels or hospitality, understanding what’s important in this industry may inform your own commercial and residential designs as the hotel industry, although a public space, leans on residential concepts and needs.

These industry experts share their insights and I’ve curated Embrace Creatives artworks that support each trend.

INTEGRATE ART INTO THE MAIN DESIGN

Luxury hotels are integrating art into the design, showcasing unique and thought-provoking pieces throughout the property. Look for gallery-style walls, custom art, and bespoke installations that reflect personality and interests. It is moving from mere decoration to an integral part of the architecture and interior spaces.” —Gulla Jónsdóttir, owner + principal, Atelier Gulla Jónsdóttir

I was thrilled to read that for 2025, art is being added into the main space design as too many projects do not add art or installations into the budget. Then the client has little money left when the topic arises. At that point, they only have the funds for posters or mass market prints. I bring high quality artwork and design objects to a wide range of budgets and aesthetics. ~Andrea

Floral Ceiling Installation - Design Trends 2

I’m excited to share this magnificent garden ceiling that plays off of the french-style wallpaper. This custom project took six-months to complete using 30,000 silk flowers and hand-blown Czech glass lights hanging from a fabricated organic platform.

ENHANCE A SPACE USING CUSTOM ARTWORK

“Flexible layouts and multi-functional areas that cater to a diverse range of preferences. Mixed-use lobbies that go beyond the traditional check-in area, which can serve as a social hub with various types of activation like pop-ups or art installations. This trend extends to seeing more custom furniture incorporated into the design as well, which [can] enhance the flexibility of the spaces.” —Jun Aizaki, founder + principal, CRÈME

Not every artwork needs to be permanent. Leasing a custom piece as a pop-up or displaying in-stock artwork more long-term are options available to your clients. Contact me to learn more about my art leasing program. ~Andrea

USE INNOVATIVE ART TO OFFER EXPERIENCES

“A focus on creating memorable meeting and event spaces that are experience-driven concepts [instead of] boring white box meeting spaces and corridors. In major urban centers, we are redesigning our meeting and event spaces to be design-driven spaces that are not unlike members clubs and socially rooted F&B spaces.” —Larry Traxler, senior vice president of global design, Hilton Hotels & Resorts

When I had my year long, pop-up exhibition space the last thing I wanted was a boring white box gallery. Like Larry, used art, furniture and lighting to build a warm and exciting gallery/meeting space for my guests, interior designers, and collectors. ~Andrea

Sleek designs printed on aluminum coordinate with the maximalist wall coverings and furniture inside the patient rooms of my client’s medical facility.
