Like a lot of my pieces, the finished product is not what I set out to create. I begin with an idea, but I might change course if I have a better idea, or if I make a mistake with the material, but not so bad it warrants starting over. This piece was made from four separate, flat panels of woven EDM wire. After making those, I coated them with latex paint. They are stitched together on the back, like a book binding. A small amount of white flex seal rubber was applied to the bottom, to prevent scratching table surfaces.

STATEMENT
I work with wire, but I could be most accurately described as a mesh artist, because I weave sections that can be worked like a soft textile or stiffened for heavier applications. The process I’ve developed is based on the principle of elegant efficiency, and results in something distinctly organic looking. My core methods are built around only a few simple rules laid out by the natural properties and physical limits of the wire, just as a potter works within the limits of the clay.
