Upside was created when my daughter Helena was 5 or 6 years old and loved to paint rainbows. She would leave little rainbow paintings and notes around my studio. I loved them of course, and wanted to make something just as simple and beautiful. Like a rainbow, it’s there to remind you to keep looking for the Upside. ……… It might not be fashionable to say so, but I love doodling and sketching digitally, it is so fast, flexible and iterative. So easy to follow an idea to extremes, to change course on a dime, and of course experiment with full color! Of course It will never replace paper and pencil as an intuitive medium. But In its own way it is a powerful creative tool and super fun too. I hope that you enjoy some of these sketches. Aluminum prints are made to order. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. (Need a different size? No problem! Contact sales@embracecreatives.com) I make only one aluminum print from each digital artwork. Because my digital work has no “original” in the traditional sense, I think of the aluminum print as originals. Dye Sublimation printing (also known as metal print) is a process of infusing dyes into a sheet of pre-treated aluminum via heat transfer. The process once complete, is permanent and archival up to 65+ years, as tested by Wilhelm imaging research. 1/16" gauge aluminum panel mounted on a 3/4" aluminum frame. The print is also backed with 1/4" Sintra board (rigid PVC) for stability, which is inset 1 1/2" from the edge of the print.

STATEMENT

As an artist I have always been acutely sensitive to my environment and physical space. My work is a personal response to and exploration of the forms, spaces, light and color that surround me every day. This was true growing up in the industrial north of England, and now in my adopted home of Los Angeles. I am fascinated by the power of color. How it can reach deep into the unconscious to affect emotions, transport us to another time or place, disrupt perceptions and change minds. My work is intended as a portal, a way to tap into the trans formative power of art through color.
