22 x 28 inch oil on canvas plein-air painting, protected with Windsor Conserv-art varnish. The art work is ready to hang in a 3 inch muted gold plein-air style frame. Painted on-site in early Autumn on the former tow paths, on the canals of the James River in Virginia. The tow paths were used by mules and mule skinners to pull the barges carrying goods from farms along the river in the 19th century. They are enjoyed today by joggers, bicyclists, hikers, and dog walkers. The art work extends an invitation to walk through the warm Autumn woods alongside a bubbling stream.

STATEMENT
It is folly to attempt to record a world in flux; but the challenge of open-air painting compels me to capture that evasive effect. The process is as valuable as the end result – concentrated work that heightens the present with a sense of urgency. To see the world in the unique way of an artist is in itself endlessly entertaining; and engaging with it in paint, even more so.
