I had to interrupt my fun with figurative works to capture this image before the next spring freeze kills everything again...after all its Michigan...warm one day and freezing the next! In the last month we were lucky enough to have a great bout of unseasonably warm weather which caused some of the local wildflowers to bloom early in the woods adjacent to my home. I ended up finding this particular spot on one my walks with Bertie, our new puppy. He seems to be good luck like his predecessor, Frankie the Frenchie, who always found the best spots like pig looking for a truffle in the woods! I started painting within an hour of discovering the scene, and that sense of immediacy shows well via my joyously aggressive brushstrokes and somewhat Fauvist colors.

My work offers less about the detailed physicality of nature and instead captures the purest emotions bestowed upon the human condition by exposure to nature.
