This is one of a series of encaustic bees' wax paintings using mixed media to add hue. I borrowed from my figure drawing experience to integrate the abstracted nude into an abstract environment leaving the story to the imagination of the viewer. The painting has a soft, stained-glass effect and the wax surface can be shined with a soft cloth brightening its patina using pan pastels oil paint and oil sticks, This work can be printed, but I would strongly suggest the original to get the full effect of the bees' wax. Encaustic is an ancient medium that has gained recent popularity among painters for its unique effects. Encaustic means literally "to burn in" and to do so a blow torch or heat gun is used. It is done on a sturdy braced panel made to hold the wax and framed in a floater frame. This one of my favorite works that will be painful to sell. Its companion (similar work) sold at a juried exhibit to a collector and won a second place award in the show.
