This whole scene is a mystery. Inspired by a Kodachrome photo from an early 1960’s wedding reception. The dress and look is iconic. I was first drawn to this image because of the dress and her expression. The snapshot quality of the composition intrigued me as well. I like how there is an arm introduced to the side and the overall mood is candid. The color palette is muted but focused on value tones and brush work.
I paint in loose technique that seeks accuracy and expressiveness. Mid-century architecture, vintage photos and classic tv shows are prominent influences. Themes of time are without longing for nostalgia, but as familiar and beautiful within the present. As a result, I am interested in studies of mundane details of our spaces and surroundings. I look for beauty in what might otherwise be overlooked.
