Lemonade Was a Popular Drink (and it still is)

This work was created in 2022. Each panel took three months of continuous labor to complete. Thematically and compositionally, the triptych tells a much larger story. Beautiful textures are created by the collaged paper beneath the paint that inspires both colour and form. The effect gives the painting an appearance that is neither matte nor glossy. There is an inherent feeling that objects have become warn over time due to use, such as a light switch or door knob; there is a also patina that develops just by existing. This piece feels like a box full of summer memories. There is something very time-specific about this painting, but a person could easily journey into any one of these vignettes and create their own narrative. There are interiors that could be living spaces with curtains and windows, chairs and bedframes, but in the distance, one might see mountains and water. In blurring the lines between interior and exterior spaces, there is an element of intrigue that cannot be denied. In the overall landscape, we find poolside swimmers, beach chair sunbathers, and a scuba diver. Abstracted objects such as corn on the cob and ice cubes clinking in glasses of lemonade, tea or cocktails add to this summer theme.

Individual panels are 65" L x 16" W and are to be hung with a three inch space between them. Hang each panel on a 10 lb. picture hanger, using the hanging wire that is between two 3/4" hardwood slats on the back. The slats of wood allow the painting to "float" of the wall beautifully, in a very distinct style that enhances the appearance of the work. Keep out of direct sunlight and humid conditions. Clean with a dry, soft microfiber duster.

STATEMENT

My work is imbued with the beauty I find in urban landscapes. I am attracted to the images and textures that have occurred over time on buildings and objects, through the effects of humans and nature. I create my work through the manipulation of collages, as well as oil and acrylic paints, and drawing pencils. No certain sense of what will come next, images manifest yet remain undetermined. The meaning in my work is irreducible to a single thought or idea. It is as abstract as it is significant.
