20 x 16 inch oil on tempered hardboard, plein-air painting, protected with Windsor Newton Conserv-art MSA Varnish. Ready to hang in a 2 inch gold, traditional style frame. Painted on-site, from direct observation, at a Bed and Breakfast, while on vacation on Block Island, Rhode Island. The white area in the foreground is crushed clam shells, which is used to pave backroads and driveways in coastal areas of New England. The painting captures the high-key hazy light of an island off the Atlantic coast.

STATEMENT
It is folly to attempt to record a world in flux; but the challenge of open-air painting compels me to capture that evasive effect. The process is as valuable as the end result – concentrated work that heightens the present with a sense of urgency. To see the world in the unique way of an artist is in itself endlessly entertaining; and engaging with it in paint, even more so.
