Grande Femme is the first in a series of paintings created during my time as an artist in residence at the TEAD One Memorial residency from July - September, 2023. These pieces focused on different aspects of the Divine Feminine. As the start of my residency, I knew I wanted to create an oversized, unabashedly PINK painting. Growing up, all things pink and girly were things we were supposed to "suppress" if we wanted to reach our true "girls boss" potential. I am intrigued with the resurgence of "bimbo culture," in which femme- identifying individuals and queer people are taking back all things pink, cute and "slutty" as an aesthetic and sexual attitude, but also as an intellectual defiance. It turns out you can be pretty AND intelligent! This piece embraces all aspects of femininity.

STATEMENT
My artwork explores the dissolution of material and figurative imagery, depicting the abstract essence and energy of life. I draw inspiration from my personal psychology. My mental health has given my life very difficult and also very beautiful moments. These are translated in my work through color, form as well as the physicality of paint. The repetitious layering of, taking away, and re-application of color underneath automatic scrawling, scratching and mark-making express my inner psyche – the way I think about myself and the world around me; This can be rough and harsh, and sometimes it is gentle and loving.
