Bimodal Triform

I found myself exploring a more restrained, relatively simple composition, which ultimately lead in a more interesting direction than I could have predicted. My process often begins by drawing with pencil directly onto the canvas to establish a formal composition, but this schematic rigidity is then combined with the unpredictable and intuitive nature of color, color being the true source of power in a painting (in my opinion). Again I find myself interested in a type of formal minimalism in the shapes and composition, in combination with a heavier, multilayered paint application.
