Initially painted back in 2011 and entitled "Who Are We to Argue with Chance?", it was the titular piece for my first solo exhibition. It kicked around for over a decade and for the 10th anniversary of that first show, I decided to bring it out again. It needed some sprucing up after all those years in storage, so in late 2022 portions were re-painted and it was re-stretched and framed. The initial concept and title for the piece had to do with the idea that in my work, I maintain a level of control to a certain point and from there, much is left to chance. This idea has parallels in life and is an idea I find very relatable. Now it's looking brand new again and ready for its new home.

STATEMENT
My work has everything to do with perception and the way we understand and recognize the world and ourselves within it, and the ways in which how we understand the world affect the way we see it and the way we see ourselves. Basically, how the world changes according to our perception. These ideas bounce back and forth a lot. The patterns they make as they do so can become confusing. Part of my work lies in organizing this confusion, and sometimes adding to it as well.
