A Thing Of Itself

This painting is inspired by my interest in the concept of Noumenons. A Noumenon is described as a thing of itself as it is which means in exists outside of the phenomenal world we live in so we can’t actually see it or them. Noumenons have been a subject among philosophers since Kant but have been part of Buddhist and Taoist teachings for a couple of thousand years although not specifically called a noumenon. There are hundreds of 3 dimensional images of what they might look like. This is my attempt to create a 2D image of one.
