No More Night
I developed this installation while living in downtown Philadelphia with 9 ft bedroom windows and reflecting on the artificial light that illuminated the sky all night and the tangled electric lines that littered the skyline. Playful, and anthropomorphic, these lightbulbs evoked a similar sensibility.
STATEMENT
Emily Schnellbacher Bean is a soft-sculpture and installation artist with a penchant for process, a passion for color, and a fetish for fabric. She references forms and elements drawn from the natural world and the human body, each of which intermingles throughout her work creating playful moments of abstraction. Bean uses the supple physicality of the media and a bright palette to compose playful assemblages that are jovial while hinting at an underlying nostalgia for adolescence and warm sun-soaked days. Her process of sewing and handling repeated forms, each rendered in painstaking detail, reflects a meditative and craft-oriented approach to art-making.
