This oil pastel gradient drawing depicts the hues of freshly picked peaches. Drawn on an early August day, it reflects on an afternoon earlier in the summer, picking peaches directly off the trees at a quaint orchard in New Jersey. I carefully packed and brought some of the peaches to an artist friend I then visited in NYC, and he immediately marveled over the colorful hues of the fruit. They tasted as delicious as they looked, and refreshed us on those incredibly hot, humid and stagnant summer days spent in Harlem. The drawing was created back in my home, seated on the rug next to my window full of plants. It brings about a summery feeling and the lingering taste of fresh picked fruit.

STATEMENT
The landscape paintings were born from my lengthy travels, with patterns inspired by the tapestries of the cultures inhabiting the landscapes depicted. Studying the weavings and rugs I reference continually teaches me about the many layers of symbolism behind the shapes, colors, and repetition in patterns. The gradients, oil pastel drawings come entirely from within, capturing fleeting moments and are entirely emotion-based. With them, I seek to aesthetically soothe the anxiety we can all experience, and provide a moment of calm to rest ones eyes. The portraits of my friends, and fellow artists Samah and Aya are an ongoing series dedicated to celebrating various people in my life and their cultural backgrounds. I'm happy to accept portrait commissions, reach out for further info.
