This oil pastel gradient entitled "Humid Sunset" was made in mid June and expresses some feelings of heat, humidity, and vibrant summer sunsets. I loved to combine the dark and light shades of blues, orange, as well as pink into this meditative drawing. I always enjoy selecting colors for the gradients that bring a sense of whimsy and delight, as well as a grounding and peaceful visual escape. I created this while sitting on the rug under my window full of plants.

STATEMENT
The landscape paintings were born from my lengthy travels, with patterns inspired by the tapestries of the cultures inhabiting the landscapes depicted. Studying the weavings and rugs I reference continually teaches me about the many layers of symbolism behind the shapes, colors, and repetition in patterns. The gradients, oil pastel drawings come entirely from within, capturing fleeting moments and are entirely emotion-based. With them, I seek to aesthetically soothe the anxiety we can all experience, and provide a moment of calm to rest ones eyes. The portraits of my friends, and fellow artists Samah and Aya are an ongoing series dedicated to celebrating various people in my life and their cultural backgrounds. I'm happy to accept portrait commissions, reach out for further info.
