This calm-hued oil pastel drawing is inspired by dusk, the time of day when the light begins to fade and the world begins to quiet. I made this gradient drawing in early July, when the days were long and the sun setting brought a welcome cool breeze. Pulling the oil pastel sticks across the page back and forth, while sitting on the floor, on a rug next to my open window, the cool breeze brought me life and inspiration. These gradients brought me grounding and serenity and I hope they bring some moments of the same for their viewers.

STATEMENT
The landscape paintings were born from my lengthy travels, with patterns inspired by the tapestries of the cultures inhabiting the landscapes depicted. Studying the weavings and rugs I reference continually teaches me about the many layers of symbolism behind the shapes, colors, and repetition in patterns. The gradients, oil pastel drawings come entirely from within, capturing fleeting moments and are entirely emotion-based. With them, I seek to aesthetically soothe the anxiety we can all experience, and provide a moment of calm to rest ones eyes. The portraits of my friends, and fellow artists Samah and Aya are an ongoing series dedicated to celebrating various people in my life and their cultural backgrounds. I'm happy to accept portrait commissions, reach out for further info.
