This oil pastel gradient was made in an intuitive, creative flow, one evening in mid July seated on the rug next to my window. The colors are reminiscent of deserts and exotic water oases, hence the title "Desert Oasis"

STATEMENT
The landscape paintings were born from my lengthy travels, with patterns inspired by the tapestries of the cultures inhabiting the landscapes depicted. Studying the weavings and rugs I reference continually teaches me about the many layers of symbolism behind the shapes, colors, and repetition in patterns. The gradients, oil pastel drawings come entirely from within, capturing fleeting moments and are entirely emotion-based. With them, I seek to aesthetically soothe the anxiety we can all experience, and provide a moment of calm to rest ones eyes. The portraits of my friends, and fellow artists Samah and Aya are an ongoing series dedicated to celebrating various people in my life and their cultural backgrounds.
