Troy's finished works are clean, slick, futuristic, psychedelic, and some times dark and mysterious. These digital images are developed in a collage method of combining clothing, background elements and body parts with lots of scaling size, contrast, color intensity, sharpness, blur, color gradients, threshold levels, opacity levels, duplicating backup layers, choosing from a number of related images for the most effective and at times, settling on a few saved versions of the finished piece. Troy's digital prints were initially intended as backlit film movie posters panels and flat screen wall art and flat screen dressing and privacy partitions. His current collection are about 50 poster sized prints on aluminum substrates with floating wall mounts. Currently a small selection of work is being embellished with oil-based and acrylic pearl essence markers to enhance certain colors, bring out the feeling of depth and accentuate details. These will be the artists' originals to have a limited printing in photographic paper, certain art papers, and certain fabrics.
Troy draws a substantial psychic reward for his laborious endeavors. Among social therapy, there is a continuing understanding and connection to the world that perplexes him and in turn, heals him.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's in my youth of youths when technology was basically just more electrically powered hardware. It was in the days of old black and white syndicated cartoons from the 30's and 40's. There was an old Popeye series showing a ship rocking side to side in fierce gale winds. There was also a scene in the 1950's Superman TV series when George Reeves accelerates his atoms to vibrate, enabling him to walk through five feet of solid steel to get to the crooks sealed in the steel cube. The special effects showed the illusion of the steel wall with a suspended spotted sheer veils depicting layers of steel impurities as Superman was slowly motioned behind them. That scene apparently stuck with me all these years of how it would look like to be able to see through walls, doors, skin and muscle, just like in the work that I create with the aid of digital editing mastery.
After high school, college and the U.S.A.F., I returned home to New York a few years before I moved to Detroit in 1990. I found myself desperate to find my artistic niche. Was I going to go commercial? A "Jack Of All Trades"? Or can I find or develop a unique voice of my own to express my societal concerns. That quandary lasted for years until recently. In the light of current travesties, I became coerced to model my artistic vision on the ramifications of historical revisionism, doublespeak, misinformation and the rhetoric of pure nonsense. I hold this country accountable for its terse humanitarian policy against a particular race. We still need to respect other citizens' "Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness" and "All Men (and Women) are created equal" including BPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. These principles were more than just denied to the people it was truly meant for by the powers that be. All these social and geographical issues are put right in our faces and we desperately need to do something to fix it fast. Along with my artistic vision is also the forming sense of a polarized doppelganger which may be the missing link to our woes. That is the last part of my hypothesis to define, in collaboration of aiding the true reasons behind the subtle prevalence of revisionism of facts and the use of doublespeak for encoded meanings et. al. in all of mankind's societies; some far more than others. All of which I intend to illustrate.
I interned at NBC Local News Graphics in NYC back in the early 80's. I was taught how to make graphic art for TV broadcast news headlines. The graphics were mostly tinted black and white photos of important people of interest with typeface and a little background collage art that suggested the type of situation the report is about. This is the most challenging aspect of the job, to conjure up certain types of visual elements with some direct or parallel meaning, which is exactly what I do in my reification of various societal happenings. Now I employ in-depth analysis of this binary phenomenon of life in carefully considered elements providing the viewers an artistic map of sorts that ask some fundamental questions as; who, what, where and why we are amnesiac spiritual beings suffering and engorging in futile human experiences. I presently have 70+ artworks with more being made monthly regarding these concerns and more.
