ABOUT THE ARTIST

STATEMENT

It is folly to attempt to record a world in flux; but the challenge of open-air painting compels me to capture that evasive effect. The process is as valuable as the end result – concentrated work that heightens the present with a sense of urgency. To see the world in the unique way of an artist is in itself endlessly entertaining; and engaging with it in paint, even more so.

BIO

Decorative Painting and Mural commissions have taken him to both U.S. Coasts, Switzerland and Bermuda. A native of Providence, RI, he studied Illustration at Rhode Island School of Design, BFA 1986. He has also studied portraiture and the Cape School approach to plein-air, with Cedric and Joanette Egeli of Annapolis. He has painted portraits for The Homestead Hotel and Historic Christ Church, and many of his landscape paintings are in private and corporate collections. Paul has also participated in several juried “Paint-Out” invitationals and is featured in the book: “100 Plein-Air Painters of the Mid Atlantic.”

His group and solo exhibits include: Still Life Gallery, Crystal Moll Gallery, MFA Gallery, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Carmen’s Gallery, Wayne Art Center, and The Sand Box, to name a few. Paul currently lives and works in the Baltimore area.
