Kelly Burke

STATEMENT

My artwork explores the dissolution of material and figurative imagery, depicting the abstract essence and energy of life. I draw inspiration from my personal psychology. My mental health has given my life very difficult and also very beautiful moments. These are translated in my work through color, form as well as the physicality of paint. The repetitious layering of, taking away, and re-application of color underneath automatic scrawling, scratching and mark-making express my inner psyche – the way I think about myself and the world around me; This can be rough and harsh, and sometimes it is gentle and loving.

BIO

Kelly received her B.F.A. in painting and art history from Siena Heights University in 2007. She has been exhibiting her artwork throughout southeast MI for several years and currently resides in Metro Detroit.

• Employee scheduling, conducting performance reviews, taking stock of store supplies, maintaining storage room order and cleanliness.
• Inventory control, integrity and maintenance through daily counts and monthly product clearance cycles.
• Customer Service i.e. aiding customers in finding art materials for their projects, explaining properties of materials and how to use them. Maintaining store appearance and merchandizing displays.
• Lead art workshops held at the store. 2-hour paid workshops in which customers are walked step-by-step through the creation of a unique project that they can take home, as well as informing them about the products that were used in the workshop.

Paint and Pour, LLC and Painting with a Twist (independent contractor) June 2013 – May 2017
Artist / Entertainer / Event Coordinator / Studio Manager / General Manager (two separate companies, similar work)
• Duties include: Facilitating painting parties in which I walk clients step-by-step through paintings from our catalogue, providing a fun, entertaining art experience. Classes are held in studio as well as at offsite locations including senior living facilities, restaurants, festivals, private homes and public halls.
• Classes include adult only, children’s, family day, senior citizens, corporate team building and special needs groups.
• Partnered with Workskills Corporation to provide job training opportunities for individuals with disabilities as well as walking them through art workshops and teambuilding events.
• Managed studio locations, wrote schedules, staffed events, coordinated private parties, corporate events and children’s’ classes.
• Oversaw hiring and training of new staff. Responsible for developing hiring and training programs and private party booking program as well as our calendar scheduling program. Aided in the opening of new studios.

• Duties include: Strong customer service, ordering, merchandizing and inventory for floral department, maintain floral department appearance and product quality, build and design elaborate floral displays, arranging and gift-wrapping bouquets and plants, create custom bouquets and arrangements for weddings and other special occasions, maintaining signage quality.
