STATEMENT

My sculptures are highly defined abstract constructions of wood, glass, and machined metal components. The wood and metals were chosen because they are durable, lend themselves to a variety of finishes and have some intrinsic value. The glass was selected because it allows light to become an integral aspect of the sculpture. The glass also presents a unique way of viewing the sculptures internal forms. My sculptures possess a formal quality that is based on the elements and principles of design and are a blend of past, present and future vision. The sculptures’ iconic nature reflects my interest and background in architecture and engineering.

BIO

Gary's interest in art, duplicating comic book characters, began as a young boy. His interest in architect was stimulated by both the building boom following World War 2 and contact with a family of builders. Following graduation from Troy Township High School Gary enrolled in the School of Architecture at the University of Michigan where he studied for 2 ½ years. Transferring to Wayne State University, Gary received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an Industrial Design Major. He also did master's work in Metal Craft at Wayne State. Some of his metal craft was selected for display at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in New York.

Gary currently works as a sculptor. His formal design style results in highly defined constructions of wood, glass, plastic and machined metal components. The materials have a variety of finishes, color and textures. The glass offers a unique way of viewing the sculptures internal forms along with allowing light to become an integral aspect.
