A LOOK INSIDE THE ARTIST’S STUDIO.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO MAKE ART?

“I’ve always been drawn to the simplicity and complexity of geometric shapes. Geometric abstraction allows me to explore the fundamental building blocks of visual language. It’s a way to strip away the superfluous and focus on the essence of form and color. I find inspiration in everything from the natural world to architecture. Whether it’s the asymmetry of a mountainscape or the gridlines of a city, there’s always something to spark my imagination. Ultimately, for me, geometric abstraction is a way for me to connect with the world on a deep level. It’s a form of meditation, a way to find peace and clarity amidst the chaos of everyday life.”

WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR STYLE?

“Many artists who came before me have significantly influenced my artistic journey. Hilma af Klint’s mystical and symbolic paintings, filled with geometric forms and celestial imagery, have opened my eyes to the spiritual dimensions of abstract art. Agnes Martin’s serene and minimalist canvases, characterized by subtle variations in tone and texture, have taught me the importance of simplicity and restraint. I’m also inspired by the bold and colorful works of Sonia Delaunay. Her dynamic compositions, often featuring interlocking shapes and vibrant hues, have helped me to experiment with different color palettes and textures. These artists have shown me that geometric abstraction is not just a style, but a language that can be used to express complex ideas and emotions. Their work continues to inspire me to push the boundaries of my practice and to explore the endless possibilities of this fascinating art form.”

While easily interpreted as geometric abstract landscape paintings, I hope that the intensity of my compositions demands unorthodox attention from the viewer to invest in a centered and calm vision within the chaotic times of our present day.

DO YOU CREATE SPONTANEOUSLY OR ARE YOU A PLANNER?

“I’m a bit of both. While I love the structure and planning that goes into creating a piece, I also enjoy the spontaneity of letting my intuition guide me. Sometimes, the most unexpected discoveries happen when I simply let go and allow the materials to dictate the direction of my work. It’s a balancing act between careful planning and embracing the unknown, and I find that this combination keeps my practice fresh and exciting.”

IF SOMEONE CAME TO YOU WITH A DREAM PROJECT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

“My dream project would be to create large-scale artwork for the interior of a public building. It’d be an incredible opportunity to transform a space and make a lasting impact. The first thing I’d do is to immerse myself in the building’s architecture, purpose, and the desired atmosphere. This would help me create pieces that feel like they belong and enhance the overall experience. I’d also want to collaborate closely with the client, understanding their vision and preferences to ensure the artworks reflect their style and aesthetic.”

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF YOUR PROCESS?

“My art process is a cyclical journey that begins with a spark of inspiration, often fueled by a personal experience, a dream, or a simple observation. I often start my journey with just one shape, which then slowly transforms into a painting. Sometimes I have a clear direction, like knowing I want to create a mountainscape, while other times I let the color of the paint inform my process. It’s a process that is both challenging and rewarding, as each step brings me closer to a finished work.”

WHAT LIFE EXPERIENCES HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR ART THE MOST?

“Meditation has been a profound influence on my art. The practice of mindfulness has helped me to quiet my mind, connect with my inner self, and find a sense of peace and clarity. This inner tranquility has translated into my artwork, allowing me to explore deeper themes and emotions with greater sensitivity and intention.

Through meditation, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the natural world, which has often served as a source of inspiration for my pieces. I’ve also gained a greater understanding of the human condition, allowing me to create works that resonate with others on a personal level.

In essence, meditation has helped me cultivate a more contemplative and introspective approach to my art, enabling me to create work that is both meaningful and visually compelling.”

DESCRIBE A “GREAT” STUDIO DAY. 🙂

“The ideal studio day begins with a quiet mind. A quick meditation session grounds me, allowing ideas to dance freely in my head. Completely absorbed, I lose myself in the process, shapes and colors taking form on the canvas. Then, as if by magic, an email pings – a collector expressing their gratitude for my work. Knowing my art has resonated with someone, sparking joy or meaning, is a truly special feeling. A sale, if the stars align, would be the ultimate cherry on top. Witnessing my creation find a new home, a place where it will be treasured, is incredibly rewarding. That perfect day in the studio is a beautiful blend of focused creation and the validation that my art touches the lives of others.”

TELL US SOMETHING FUN ABOUT YOU.

I’m a total snowboarding enthusiast. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of freedom you get when you’re carving down a snowy mountain. Being out there on my own, surrounded by nature, is like a form of meditation. I also love sketching out in the snow! There’s something incredibly peaceful about the vast white landscape, and it’s the perfect opportunity to let my creativity flow and take a break after a long day.

WHAT FAMOUS PERSON WOULD YOU LIKE TO OWN YOUR ARTWORK?

I’d love to collaborate with Lady Gaga on a piece of art. Her ability to reinvent herself and push boundaries is truly inspiring. I think the introspective nature of my work would resonate with her, and I could see us creating something truly unique and powerful together.
