How does a retail and merchandising specialist make the most of her time and prepare to get back to her brick-n-mortar clients?

With this “new normal” of being virtual or 6′ apart, it’s important that we stay connected and inspired. Embrace Creatives is checking in with our global members to find out how they’re spending their @ home time, creating and doing business.

Welcome to Inside Empowerment.

Let’s meet Amanda Curtis

EC: Give us a brief introduction.
Amanda: Hello! My name is Amanda and I am a retail and merchandising specialist, an event designer, and residential designer. My goal is to empower individuals to create their story through design. Whether that story is for their brand and retail, their event, or their personal space. I am located in the Metro-Detroit area but I service clients all around the state of Michigan.

EC: Where in your home do you spend the most time?
Amanda: I spend the most time in my home studio/office.

EC: What’s the biggest challenge you face being self-quarantined?
Amanda: I love to explore new places in Detroit and Metro-Detroit area. While I am able to do this virtually it is not the same as experiencing it in person.

EC: What’s the best part about being self-quarantined?
Amanda: I find myself with more time to work on my design practice.

EC: Has your artwork or process changed or adapted?
Amanda: YES! Of course! I am currently re-structuring my studio services to be able to accommodate clients both in a virtual world as well as a physical one.

EC: How have your social media posts changed?
Amanda: I would say that many of them revolve around what is happening in our world and how I am staying productive and busy. I would also say that more reflection has come into play while posting.

EC: What’s your favorite online source for studio (art) tools and materials?
Amanda: I pull inspiration from a variety of places. It really depends on the genre of design that I am currently working on. If I am working with a residential client, most of the time it involves sites and resources they have seen as inspiration for their vision. I also reference a variety of professional design sites, Embrace Creatives, Detroit Design Network/ Core, and I use social media platforms to see what artists and designers are posting.

EC: How are you spending your free time?
Amanda: Outside of re-structuring and building my brand and design business. I am spending time connecting virtually with friends and family, walking outside in our neighborhood as much as the weather allows, relaxing with my pup and fiance, watching Netflix series ( I LOVE THE OFFICE), looking for new movies and new shows to watch, listening to Podcasts, and looking for educational resources to expand my knowledge while I have the time.

EC: Are you doing something new doing during this challenging time that you will stick with?
Amanda: YES! I have started each morning with a YOGA practice.
