Working from home with the Embrace Creatives, global community of artists and commercial buyers!

As we’re moving towards the “new normal” and we’re MORE connected, virtually, a lot of us are still struggling with little in-person contact.

To keep our creative connections flowing and learn how others in our EC community are fairing, we’re interviewing our EC Members! Catch up with them and see how they’re spending their @ home time, creating and doing business.

Today we’re catching up with EC Artist Member, Tim Smith!

EC: Give us a brief introduction.
Tim: “I’m an oil painter and illustrator currently based in Troy, Michigan. My preferred media for illustrations would be pen & ink or graphite.

EC: Where in your home do you spend the most time?
Tim: “My studio.”

EC: What’s the biggest challenge you face being self-quarantined?
Tim: “I’d say my initial and foremost challenge would be to not introduce the virus into my house and keep my family protected as I’m the go-to person to retrieve supplies & groceries during the lockdown. Next would be using my newly found free time wisely and staying organized with it.”

EC: What’s the best part about being self-quarantined?
Tim: “Definitely the best thing has to be spending more time with my family. They may not feel the same about me, but the jury is still out on that! But now I’m devoting a lot more time to my art things I’ve been wanting to do for a while around the house—fixing things up, repairs, etc..”

EC: Has your artwork or process changed or adapted?
Tim: “Well, now we have all virtual meetings and discussions, so I’d say that’s the biggest change— no face to face collaborations. But my direct processes of painting or drawing haven’t really changed at all.”

EC: How have your social media posts changed?
Tim: “Hasn’t really changed since this all started. I’m building up a set of new images to start regular posts, now that I have more time to create them.”

EC: What’s your favorite online source for studio (art) tools and materials?
Tim: “Hasn’t really changed since this all started. I’m building up a set of new images to start regular posts, now that I have more time to create them.”

EC: How are you spending your free time?
Tim: “My late night indulgences are mostly catching up on old tv series whether it’s Netflix or HBO Now or whatever. Still trying to get a footing on managing my free time productively!”

EC: Are you doing something new doing during this challenging time that you will stick with?
Tim: “Not really yet but with everything slowed down at the moment I’d like to spend more time painting and continue learning guitar.”
