Embrace Creatives takes a look inside our studios, highlighting our art community

It’s a crazy time! We’re self-isolating at home with a full house or empty space. Many of us are figuring out what to do next, where to get toilet paper, when we’re going to be “back to normal” and what the “new normal” will be!

So we’re highlighting our EC Community Members to stay connected and find out how they’re spending their @ home time, creating and doing business.

Welcome to Inside Empowerment.

Kelly O’Neill – Embrace Creatives’ Champion

EC: Give us a brief introduction.
Kelly: “O’Neill works with Clay and Metal – Using both wheel thrown and hand –built techniques, fired with crystal and raku glazes. Her metal work constructions are from recycled steel. Her art is the Fusion of Iron and Earth. Each piece is unique and symbiotically created.”

EC: Where in your home do you spend the most time?
Kelly: “4 corner: studio, kitchen, living room, bedroom.”

EC: What’s the biggest challenge you face being self-quarantined?
Kelly: “Finding a purpose every day. I always had a milestone I was working towards. The next show, my last class etc. With nothing on the calendar, I’m finding new daily priorities: improve my time on my walk, improve my yoga practice, discover a new recipe from the food in the back of the freezer.

EC: What’s the best part about being self-quarantined?
Kelly: “Learning how to work with the tools I have. As a metal artist, fabrication plays a big part in the creative process. Without some of the machines I had access to at Schoolcraft, I am finding new design aesthetics within my means.”

EC: Has your artwork or process changed or adapted?
Kelly: “Yes, see my previous answer.”

EC: How have your social media posts changed?
Kelly: “I have added a store to my Facebook page, I have posted a live demonstration video and will be doing a second one this Friday as part of the Royal Oak, MI Spring Art Fair.”

EC: What’s your favorite online source for tools and materials?
Kelly: “I love Pinterest. Specifically Artists that use different mediums than I do. It inspires me to push my creativity within my mediums.”

EC: How are you spending your free time?
Kelly: “I am re-watching Harry Potter movies and have binged watched the Magician. I need escapism that takes me out of reality.”

EC: Are you doing something new doing during this challenging time that you will stick with?
Kelly: “Walking the dogs everyday. They seem to enjoy it too.”
